"The Best Way To Train Your Gun Dog"
Wed, May 26, 2010 at 12:15
This book is an essential guide to properly training a bird dog; alas, as I was preparing to write this article, I noticed that this book has unfortunately gone out of print. This is a real shame as it is astonishingly insightful, and it changes the whole tone of the article. Delmar had a very keen understanding of how dogs think, and how nature works. I suppose, given the current availability situation, I'm lucky to have a copy of the book, and I am enjoying reading it. Once I get a GSP pup, it will be my bible. It does appear that one might have a shot at getting a copy if he looks here.
The book was written as team - Delmar Smith would merely just talk to Bill Tarrant about training the dog, and Bill took the disjointed bits of training advice and compiled them into this wonderful tome. If you are interested in bird dogs, and you have a chance to get this book, don't hesitate to pick up a copy.
