Carnival A-Z: Super...
Thu, February 11, 2010 at 18:03
Super…
Super Krewes, Super Bowl, Super Saints…
Everything is just SUPER.
“S” has been a difficult letter for me to choose the A-Z, on which I would write this. The Saints winning the Superbowl is a very, very tempting topic to write about, but it is in and of itself not Carnival related. I could write about the Saints Parade that was held Tuesday, as it used Mardi Gras floats. It especially used floats from the Super Krewes (These are the krewes that cap the evenings on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights, usually with celebrity monarchs and multi-component floats lit by fiber optic lighting). Other topics that could have fit the location are the Sirens that signal the coming of a new parade (Sirens in other parts of the country develop a sinking feeling in the stomach of those that hear them. Here in New Orleans, the sirens in combination with the low rumble of parade goers and cool February air produce a feeling of excitement among those on the street). If I hadn’t covered Rex in “R”, I could have written about the School of Design. I could have covered the Snow that may be falling on the Northshore by now.
I’ll just leave “S” at this, and say that Carnival Season is Stupendous, Spectacular, and, well, Super. (especially this year).
