      Carnival A-Z: Elves of Oberon

The Elves of Oberon (E of O) gather ever year on the Monday one week prior to Lundi Gras to hold their annual ball/presentation. This fairly old krewe is known for its Tableau, which is always hosted by the Shakespearean Sprite, Puck. A Tableau is a small play (almost alway silent save being set to music) during the ball set as entertainment. The krewe members fill the role of actors depicting what is usually a humorous scene. The tableau has become a standard part of most balls, usually set as the court entertainment.

Oberon's Tableau is usually a poignant, topical, hilarious, and somewhat lengthy satire of local goings on. William "Dollar Bill" Jefferson, hasn't escaped the ribbing of this krewe in most of the recent years; I believe the Canal Street Brothel has made an appearance or two also. Who knows what spectacle Puck will treat us to this year. We'll have to wait and see!
